It depends on where your input video switch the TV or receiver.
If you use the remote control receiver to want to control all your audio and video switching, connect the VCR input on the receiver. But if the volume and the inputs to the TV using the TV remote control for the connection of components in the various inputs of the TV. One advantage of connecting everything to a receiver and then a single cable (receiver output), go on the TV screen. They should in the manual to see if your receiver has composite video upconverter and sends it to the HDMI output. If not, you have to run a cableComposite video input on your TV. If you do not have the manual in hand, was able to try everything and see if it works.
